IRT Referee License Course Program has finally been activated. This course is designed to train prospective elite officials to work at selected Professional tournaments and International events. After holding the inaugural course in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the response and feedback from the group indicates the following:

    * State Associations should market this four hour class to all players and others interested in the sport. It provides a body of knowledge which is invaluable.

    * The course will include discussion on rules understanding and interpretation, interpersonal skills, technical aspects of calling a match, differences in rules between the various organizations, and on-court role playing and officiating.

    * For those who aspire to be ‘licensed’, two full matches must be officiated at a selected site; the first followed by a professional critique and the second as the measure of whether the candidate becomes licensed.

    * The fee for the four-hour course is $30; with licensee candidates paying an additional $20 for the opportunity to become licensed. A $15 annual fee will be assessed to remain active in the pool. Those licensed Referees will have the opportunity to call matches at Pro Stops and selected International events and be paid a minimum of $30 per match for their services.

    * Courses will be attached to most Pro tournaments, National events, and International events.
