Foxwoods Resort and Casino Renew as Title Sponsor of the 2007 Red Swain Memorial Racquetball Event
March 22nd-25th
Boston MA- Foxwoods Resort and Casino www.foxwoods.com renewed it long-term sponsorship of the IRT Red Swain Memorial event in Boston Mass. March 22-25,2007. Tournament director Lorraine Feeney was very excited about this year’s full ranking $15,000 event and bringing the top men’s professionals in the world back to the Boston area again. Foxwoods continued support goes hand and hand with tour veteran and six-time IRT number one, Cliff Swain. Foxwoods is one of Cliff’s tour sponsor's and has been a contributor to the event in memory of Cliff’s father Red who lost his battle with ALS an few years ago. The event raises money for the Angel Fund, which is dedicated to researching a cure for ALS. The event was held at the Boston Athletic Club in the city proper.
This event would be a send off of sorts for Cliff Swain as all his faithfull supporters from the Northeast came out to say goodbye to this great racquetball warrior as he plays his last IRT event here in his home city. Cliff had taken some time off since the US OPEN to attend to his new business venture in Naples Florida, Lucky’s@951 a sports style bar and restaurant. He would come back here to Boston to play in front of his hometown fans and much to their dismay he would bow out of the event early at the hand sof Chris Crowther. Swain only knows how to play the game one way and that is at full speed and leaving nothing on the court and he did that here in Boston. There was a great retirement party for him in the lounge at the club on Saturday night and friends and family joined in a semi-roast of the great champion. A great time was had by all.
Jack Huczek won his first IRT title here in Boston and seems to play very relaxed here and this weekend would be no different then his first year here as he takes the title defeating Rocky Carson in the finals 6 7 3. Jack would play solid ball all weekend and getting to the finals by beating Alvaro Beltran in the semis 7 87. Carson reached the finals defeating Jaosn Mannino 4 9 6 in the other semifinal and also brought his “A” game with him to Boston. This would be Rocky’s third final of the season.
