About AmPRO

The American Professional Racquetball Organization program (AmPRO) was designed to create a standardized level of quality racquetball certification in three distinct areas of racquetball:

  1. Professional Instruction
  2. Program Management
  3. Coaching

AmPRO is the certification arm of racquetball in America and AmPRO has certified approximately 2000 members of which there are approximately 900 active member in the field today. The program offers clinics and testing throughout the country, advises instructors and services a network of professional instructors, program managers and coaches with relevant materials.

AmPRO also offers a management component designed to assist club owners in developing racquetball programs to meet their business and financial objectives.

AmPRO is affiliated with the International Health and Racquet Sports Association [IHRSA]. Nationally there are about 1200 IHRSA courts but there are a lot of private, YMCA and non- IHRSA member courts. AmPRO works through these clubs and their accompanying three million recreational members.

Mission

The mission of AmPRO is to promote racquetball certification and to provide leadership by developing and coordinating services and programs designed to meet the needs of the American racquetball community as a fun, exhilarating and healthy activity.

For many years AmPRO was part of the United States Racquetball Association (USRA). In January, 2003 AmPRO will be autonomous. AmPRO will remain the certification arm of racquetball.

During the new year the site will be focused on the community of certified people and the ways they add value to the game for those different segments; recreational, collegiate player, junior player, tournament player, and fan. It won't facilitate anyone to get a pick-up game while on business traveling through Kankakee, Ind. The ten things that immediately come to mind of what it will do.

  1. It will be about having fun when you play racquetball
  2. It will be about how to provide more exceptional court experiences inside and outside the courts
  3. It will focus on saving courts as well engaging fans, players and program managers
  4. It will be focused on how to help the states address their constituents needs that are diverse and dynamic
  5. It will focus on using technology to help enjoy the game
  6. It will be about what attracts youth, what brings back those that have strayed and why it's a life-long sport
  7. It will be about how racquetball relates to our Health IQ in relation to other activities like diet, exercise, sleep and mental acuity
  8. It will be about what certification can do for the individual, the fan, the club and the tournaments that players attend
  9. It will be about relationships with the USRA, IPRO, IRF and YMCAs, health clubs, IHRSA and athletic clubs
  10. It will be about getting the information out about the value of certification to everyone remotely interested in racquetball

All in all, the things that we'll be addressing will be the things that touch why most of us got involved in racquetball in the first place -- fun, exhilaration and a lot of decent people.
